Incubous: liverwort leaf insertion viewed from the dorsal surface, where the leaves are ±flattened to the same plane and leaf margins facing the apex (leading edge) are visible.
Succubous: liverwort leaf insertion viewed from the dorsal surface, where the leaves are ±flattened to the same plane and leaf margins facing the base (trailing edge) are visible.
Transverse: Perpendicular to the axis of the structure, where leaf edges are facing dorsally.
Underleaf: small leaves on the ventral surface.
